Hello everyone! For those that haven’t met me before, my name is Stasey Norstrom and I am the new Editor for eSteampunk. I’m really excited to be a part of eFiction and the editorial staff, but I’m most excited to be working alongside some great fellow writers and readers of the Steampunk genre.
Onward!

Writing is a lonely profession that’s for sure, it’s like rowing a bathtub across the ocean. Here in South Africa we don’t have any sort of writing community or network. But with the internet and open forums it can be more communal. Check out The Writer’s Workshop (http://writing-community.writersworkshop.co.uk/) for a start

@ Stasey and Mandy, I have found a lot more friendship online than I have conventionally. Our ”local lives” seem crowded with all sorts of activities (school, shopping, meetings, etc) where our online lives are…well, online, and more focused, it seems. Moreover, you’ll find friends there across a whole spectrum of humanity!
-
Have you tried your local book stores to see if maybe they have a book club? It’s been my experience that there’s always 1 or 2 writers in a book club. Or maybe they know of a writer’s group in the area. Just a thought..:)

eFiction 8 months agoFor those that want to do NaNoWriMo but realistically don’t have the time to commit to it during the holidays: I have a proposition:
-
It sounds like a plan to me…uh…if I knew more about the plan. Is it the same as NaNoWriMo only in a different month? Methinks I need a bit more information….please…:)

Two things: I figured this would happen sooner or later and I apologize it’s you, Robert, that brought it to my attention. I am, in fact, a male. I know, I know. Your name is Stasey, which sure doesn’t help my position. Even though my middle name is Jackson, it allows my name to be ambiguous at best.
As to your actual question(s), my proposal of…[Read more]

eFiction 9 months, 1 week agoHowdy everyone! Been a long time since I’ve been in this neck of the e-woods, so I thought I’d stop by and do two things. One: say “Hi!” to everyone and; Two: let you all know that I have finally climbed back into the saddle and am now spending much more time writing and working on my YA novel, “Jac and the City of 1,000 Worlds” as well as…[Read more]

The Crew 11 months agoQuestion re: e-book sales: I know you’ll receive a percentage of profit when you sell an e-book on Amazon, but do you receive the same percentage when the book is purchased by an Amazon Prime member? The price point for Prime members is $0.00, so I’m curious to know how that works.
Cheers,
SJ Norstrom

You get a portion of the big monthly pot that Amazon puts up.
-
Is it comparable to the percentage based off of your own set price point (e.g. $3.99)?
-
Nope. They take the $300,000 pot and split it up to everyone based on how many lends there were. So if there were 300,000 Prime rentals one month, then each one is worth $1.
-
*note: not all months are $300K. That’s what December of last year was, and I haven’t really kept up with it since nobody rents eFiction issues.

We have all the free time in the world. Unfortunately, it’s called sleep.
Hi Stacey - Welcome! I am looking forward to see the magazine go in new directions. I was very happy to have a story accepted into the April issue of eSteampunk - do you plan to get that issue out on Kindle or other publishing formats than Nook? I’ve had a bunch of people express interest in reading it, but the Nook is still kind of a niche…[Read more]
